High aspect-ratio wing planforms are analyzed from aerodynamic and structural standpoints. From comparisons of mass, deformation, and vibration modes of the planforms analyzed – all with the same induced drag - one wing is chosen as the best compromise. This type of study can be a relevant reference for the design of new – and challenging - aircraft arrangements such as sun-powered aircraft.
