This paper describes the design and pilot evaluation of the Runway Collision Avoidance Function developed under the EU FP-6 programme FLYSAFE. The system monitors traffic, detects runway conflicts, determines an escape manoeuvre based on aircraft performance and generates an alert directing the crew to follow the intended manoeuvre.
