K. Griendling¹, O.J. Pinon¹, D.N. Mavris¹; ¹Georgia Tech, United States

This paper gives a review of best practices in using visual analytics to support system of systems engineering practices. The paper will review some of the challenges faced by the system of systems community, and identify ways in which a variety of visual analytics approaches can help overcome these challenges. In particular, the paper will focus on the ever-growing quantity of data available both from existing system of systems and from the modeling and simulation of system of systems, and will present an approach to efficiently and effectively transforming this data into useful information and knowledge through the application of integrated analytics techniques. The paper will explore the use of analytics at all levels, including creating situational awareness for a system of system, performing predictive analytics on a system of systems, and performing trade studies to support decision making at all levels of system of systems engineering.
