FEASIBILITY ANALYSIS OF SPAN EXTENSION OF MORPHING HALE UAV WING

Morphing by wingspan extension is proposed to reduce the fuel consumption in the loiter mission-segment of HALE UAVs. If a telescopic span extension mechanism is chosen, some loss of fuel tank volume occurs because the morphing mechanism is housed inside the wing. Considering this, the present study explores the relation between span extension length and the actual overall fuel savings obtained.
