CHAOS THEORY APPLIED TO BUCKLING ANALYSIS OF COMPOSITE CYLINDRICAL SHELL

M. Alfano, Politecnico di Milano, Italy; C. Bisagni, Delft University of Technology, Netherlands

The chaos theory is here applied to assess the structural integrity of composite and sandwich cylindrical shells subjected to axial compression. It is based on the erosion profile of the safe basin of attraction of the shell pre-buckling equilibrium varying the input geometric imperfections.
