DYNAMICS MODELLING FOR CONTROL OF AN UNSTEADY HYDRODYNAMIC STINGRAY ROBOT

B. Gater, Virginia Tech , United States; J. Bayandor, Virginia Tech, United States

To investigate the unsteady hydrodynamics of stingray locomotion, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) determined force production, pressure and vorticity contours for prescribed fin kinematics. A nonlinear equation for thrust production of the fin was developed through parametric analysis, which will be used for velocity and attitude control in a batoid robot.
