LOW ORDER MODELING OF THE UNSTEADY AND 3D EFFECTS OF CONTINUOUS WAKE FLAPPING FLIGHT

A. Mattaš, J. Bayandorš; šVirginia Tech, United States

An investigation of the experimentally determined aerodynamics and energy consumption of an ornithopter whose semi-spans contain 3 active degrees of freedom (DOFs) each. Specifically how adjustment of the kinematics of each of these degrees of freedom impacts flight performance of this multi DOF ornithopter. Furthermore, an extended version of modified strip theory is used to estimate aerodynamic forces and moments.
