STRATEGIES FOR MANUAL LANDING OF REMOTELY PILOTED AIRPLANES WITH LARGE TIME DELAY

T. Fricke¹, F. Holzapfel¹; ¹Technische Universität München, Germany

Different flight control system designs and piloting techniques for manual landing of remotely piloted aircraft systems with large signal transmission time delays are presented and compared. The analyses indicate that higher-level maneuver demand systems and open-loop piloting techniques may provide adequate handling qualities at the cost of potentially long landing distances.
