Pure fibre-reinforced plastics cannot be used in radiation-shielding satellite enclosures due to inherent low attenuation of electron radiation. Here, we analyse the behaviour of tungsten foils. We show that sintered tungsten alloy foils possess a required level of plastic deformation capability for manufacturing tough and lightweight CFRP-tungsten laminates for enclosures.
