Residual stresses may influence the behavior of a crack growing in a metallic structure. In order to ensure the structural robustness of a design affected by residual stresses, the development of accurate numerical models able to predict this influence is of major importance for industry nowadays. In this work, the eXtended Finite Element Method (XFEM) has been applied to simulate this phenomenon.
