CHARACTERISATION OF NS-DBD PLASMA ACTUATORS FOR SUPERSONIC FLOW CONTROL

A. Russell¹, H. Zare-Behtash¹, K. Kontis¹; ¹University of Glasgow, United Kingdom

A current issue with the development of high speed transport aircraft is the operational cost of the current hypersonic propulsion systems. A method of improving their efficiency is the use of NS-DBD plasma actuators to control the shock wave-boundary layer interactions. This paper will optimise the efficiency of NS-DBD actuators using IR thermography, high speed PIV and schlieren imaging.
