AERODYNAMIC OPTIMIZATION OF COAXIAL ROTOR IN HOVER AND AXIAL FLIGHT

An aerodynamics optimization of a coaxial rotor system in hover and axial flight is presented. The analysis is based on Momentum Blade-Element analysis and includes mutual induced inflow of each rotor over the other. Optimization is achieved by calculus of variations. The results show important design trends.
