This paper presents primary results of the 2009 NASA/FAA simulation of the mid-term NextGen concept, entitled “Multi Sector Planner” (MSP). A flow oriented MSP position was evaluated in a comprehensive context of air traffic management and control operations. Performance metrics, controller workload, communication patterns and tool effectiveness were analyzed.
