Keywords: pilot response delay, air traffic management, separation assurance, self separation
A human-in-the-loop simulation experiment conducted by NASA assesses pilot performance and acceptance of procedures using airborne separation assistance tools in 4D trajectory-based operations. The paper reports on response times of pilots under high traffic density conditions and pilot perception of situation awareness, traffic complexity and trust in automation.
