Keywords: Hypersonic flow, viscous interaction, flat plate, experimentation

The dynamics of the relationship between low frequency unsteady motion and upstream flow conditions are investigated on a simple flat plate in Mach 5 flow before advancing to complex geometries. Schlieren and conventional pressure and temperature measurements are accomplished for this study . The results are compared with analytical / empirical results for various Re numbers to study the effect of Reynolds number on the global features of the flow field.
