A new approach for determining the wind speed, direction and aerodynamic flow angles using navigation data is presented. The concept provides a low-cost solution using miniaturized Commercial-off-the-Shelf components for the navigation and computer system. It is installed in a research aircraft and subject of a comprehensive flight test program.
