A key structural design criterion that needs to be effectively foreseen is medium velocity impact enforced by Foreign Object Impact, mainly bird-strike. Investigations have focused on developing accurate numerical models of such events through using fluid-structure methodologies, incorporating a cohesive composite fracture-delamination model, to capture the resulting intricate interlaminar damage.
