The air-quality and climate change issues linked to aviation require appropriate R&T developments. The engine and the combustor design permit to mitigate NOx and other pollutants emission. The European programmes LOPOCOTEP and TLC are supporting such activities; they focus on lean combustion. An overview of these programmes is given.
