An hybrid approach is used to optimize the performances of helicopter undercarriage systems under vertical crashes. This technique integrates local aspects -investigated by detailed FEM analyses- with the overall structural response and represents a promising approach to design integrated structural systems, accounting for their mutual interactions and multiple design constraints.
