Principles of lean thinking, emerging from manufacturing, have been applied to engineering with notable successes. The paper will report on Lean Engineering practices exhibited by a number of past aircraft programs to illustrate that the basic principles are “tried and true”. The biggest challenges lie in their systematic use.
