Area Navigation (RNAV) departure and arrival procedures are being implemented at major airports in the U.S. These procedures offer significant benefits for airport capacity and flight efficiency. An initial study assesses human factors considerations with these procedures including pilot-controller communication, aircraft system capabilities, charting, and training.
