For obtaining aircraft certification it is mandatory to show compliance with the applicable requirements. For cargo smoke detection systems, the time for smoke detection is clearly specified by the authorities, the quantity of (simulated) smoke for showing compliance is not. An approach is presented for determination of applicable smoke amounts.
