PROSPECTS FOR HEAD- AND CROSSWIND DEPENDENT AIRCRAFT SEPARATIONS IN THE CONTEXT OF WAKE VORTEX SAFETY AND AIRPORT CAPACITY, APPLICATION TO SCHIPHOL AIRPORT

NLR, Netherlands
Keywords: wake vortex, safety, airport capacity
Based on the average wind conditions and runway usage at Schiphol airport an assessment is made on potential capacity gains for cross- and/or headwind dependent aircraft separations. Combining reduced separations in headwind with steep approaches potentially offers increased airport capacity, while maintaining or improving noise levels around the airport.
