INTERMODAL INTEGRATION OF LARGE VOLUME AIR CARGO

Proposed is a novel concept for intermodal transport based on the planned A380-800F. Aircraft of this size can carry up to six 40’ or fourteen 20’ standard containers or combinations of these. Airframe reinforcement may reduce the payload by 6%. The potential time savings and economic benefits are significant.
