Problems can occur when response surface models are used for global-local optimization in structural dynamics. In this paper, an adapted strategy involving component mode synthesis (CMS) is presented to solve these problems. The placement of sensor-actuator pairs in active structural acoustic control (ASAC) is used as a test case.
