SEPARATION CONTROL BY ALTERNATING TANGENTIAL BLOWING/SUCTION AT MULTIPLE SLOTS

Keywords: separation, slots, blowing, sucking

When all the slots on an airfoil operate in-phase, the global flow field varies with time periodically while aerodynamic forces oscillate with large amplitude. But with phase difference, suction effect is always present in the flow, which results in very small variations of force coefficients and flow field remains virtually unchanged at various time instants. Consequently greater time averaged values and lesser fluctuations are obtained through out-of-phase blowing/suction.
