The paper discusses the environmental and economic strengths and weaknesses of two large conventional configuration airliner design project , showing the effects of advanced technologies. A description is then given of progress on the comprehensive blended-wing-body airliner programme being performed by Cranfield University, supported by flying technology demonstration aircraft.
