AERODYNAMIC INTEGRATION OF HIGH SPEED PROPELLER ON AIRCRAFT: RECENT INVESTIGATIONS IN EUROPEAN WIND TUNNELS

Dumas A., Caston C.
Aerospatiale, France

Keywords: high speed propeller, aircraft, european wind tunnels

Pushed by the needs of fuel burn reduction (cost effectiveness and environment quality) as well as competitive US research effort, the European industry promoted a new generation of high efficiency aircraft (15 to 25% fuel saving) driven by the advanced propeller technology. The key-unknowns were mainly the high speed aerodynamic behaviour and the noise. This paper summarises progress in this field.
