A procedure is presented which yields flutter diagrams using an aeroelastic simulation for a given flight condition, in combination with a parameter analysis for an equivalent linear aeroelastic model. This equivalent model is constructed by applying the MIMO technique to the time signals obtained from the aeroelastic simulation. The procedure strongly reduces the amount of nonlinear simulations needed, for instance, at transonic flow conditions, where the linear model can be used as a predictor for the critical flutter boundary of the nonlinear system. The paper presents the MIMO method and demonstrates its applicability for an aeroelastic test case.
